The Caribbean Ritual: When Two Seas Meet in Yalidi Candelario's Hands

There is a ritual born from the meeting of two seas. On one side, the Caribbean Sea, holding the roots of the woman who created it. On the other, the Mediterranean Sea, which welcomed her and taught her a new vision of wellness. It's called the Caribbean Ritual, created by Yalidi Candelario, founder of SHIMAI Professional Holistic Studio, recently awarded winner in the Wellness category at the Open Bulgarian Championship 2026.

Yalidi was born in the Dominican Republic, a land rich in color, scent, and tradition, where the sea is part of everyday life. For many years now she has lived in Sorrento, a place that as she describes it made her feel at home and enriched both her personal and professional journey. It is precisely from the union of these two lands that her ritual was born.

«I wanted to create a sensory journey capable of engaging body, mind, and emotions», Yalidi explains. Every element of the ritual was chosen with a precise meaning: the sound of seashells recalls the ocean, the breeze gently brushes the skin, the essences evoke the scents of her homeland, and the hand movements follow the harmonious motion of the waves. Nothing is left to chance every gesture guides the person on a journey that invites them to slow down, breathe, and rediscover a deep state of wellbeing.

The Caribbean Ritual Yalidi Candelario is, in her own words, the expression of her identity: it holds the warmth of Caribbean culture and the elegance of the Mediterranean, turning two worlds into a single experience. «It's my way of welcoming people, of telling my story without words, and of sharing, through my hands, the deep bond between the land where I was born and the one that gave me the chance to grow.»

An Award That Speaks of you

When your name was announced as the winner of the Wellness category at the Open Bulgarian Championship 2026, it was a special moment for you «I got very emotional when they announced my name, because that award wasn't just for a massage it was for a part of my life», she says. «The Caribbean Ritual speaks of my roots in the Dominican Republic, but also of Italy, the land that welcomed me and where I built my path. Seeing it win an international championship made me understand that when you put your heart into what you do, people feel it.»

When Hands Speak

There is a precise moment during the ritual when you feels the message has landed. «It happens almost every time. There's a moment when the person completely relaxes, and I feel like I'm no longer just giving a massage. In that moment, my hands speak for me. It's hard to explain, but it's as if I manage to convey an emotion, a memory, a feeling of home. And when I finally see the person's eyes, or hear what they tell me, I understand that the message got through.»

A Soul to Pass On

Today the Caribbean Ritual is still, above all, you proud of it, because it tells a part of who she is. But she's already looking ahead: «One of my dreams is to be able to teach it. I would love other professionals to learn not just the movements, but also the meaning behind them. Because a ritual can't be copied it has to be lived. If one day it travels into other hands, I want it to always carry the same soul it was born with.»
